An Agile Coaches Guide to Showing Your Value

Some of the biggest questions facing agile coaches today, whether external consultants/contractors or internal employees; Coaches, ScrumMasters, or leaders, are:

  • What do you actually do as a coach?

  • What difference are you making? What is your value?

  • How do I measure your impact?

  • Why do I need you as my coach?

  • Do I really need your role in my organization?

Challenging questions to answer, right?

The premise of this talk is that most coaches are fundamentally unprepared to answer them. That is, many of us struggle to communicate our value, while not appearing self-centered or braggadocios.

In this talk, we will explore how to navigate these value-based questions effectively. We’ll begin with the client entry process and discuss keys for setting up win-win coaching agreements and managing expectations. Next, we’ll explore various approaches for measuring agile coaches, their value, and their impact. While there is no singular metric, you’ll be exposed to many successful strategies. Finally, we’ll talk about the importance of brand building and not being shy or reticent in talking about yourself, which is a problem for so many coaches.

Supporting Yourself through Uncertainty and Change

Everyone knows how important it is to keep a positive outlook and portray a confident image when you’re searching for a job (or hoping to hold on to one) in a tough job market. And yet doing these things is next to impossible when you’re stressed, anxious, and worried about the future of your career, and worse–the future of your industry! What is an anxious agilist to do?

In this short talk, Michelle Pauk shares 5 tiny but potent steps you can take today to improve your coaching presence, support yourself and others, and powerfully show up in the way you want to be seen. We won’t fix the big problems vexing our community in this session, but we will do our best to make things a little brighter and lighter for each other nonetheless!

Michelle Pauk
is an agile coach by trade and an executive coach by training. Over the past 10 years, she has supported change and agile transformation efforts in a variety of industries and a range of organizations, from startups to Fortune 100. She found Agile when she was a stressed-out project manager in her late 20s with some serious control and perfectionism issues. Agile helped her find a way to release that and embrace the beauty of collaboration, complexity, and change, and she loves helping others find ways to do the same.  Check out her work at www.streamsidecoaching.com.
