Talk: State of Agile

Over the last twelve years, Agile has moved from a radical approach used by a rarified few to become a core methodology in the IT departments of even the most traditional industries.  Short iterations/sprints, customer stories, backlogs, test-first/driven development, continuous integration and deployment, and retrospectives, are becoming common parlance in many development teams.  However, that has not happened without a good many challenges, objections, and obstacles.  And Agile is not a homogenous, absolutely defined methodology.  It’s made of many values and practices that have each found different levels of traction and adoption in different technical and business domains.
This session will explore the current state of Agile and how people have adjusted and overcome hurdles to bring the benefits of a highly iterative, customer-driven methodology to their businesses.  Bruce Eckfeldt, CEO of Cyrus Innovation, will open with a presentation on his experiences implementing these methods in many organizations, and discuss the future of Agile as a methodology.  He will then lead an open discussion on the audiences experiences with adopting Agile and other methodologies, what challenges people have faced, and what new tactics people are trying. Bruce Eckfeldt, Managing Director and CEO at Cyrus Innovation, obtained his Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Architecture from McGill University in Montreal and practiced architecture for several years before moving into technology development in the interactive media firm, IconNicholson, the New York office of the european consultancy Icon Medialab. In 2003, he founded Cyrus Innovation to focus exclusively on Extreme Programming (XP) and other Agile methodologies providing development and coaching services. Today, Cyrus is a fifty-person Agile consultancy with offices in New York and Boston and works with a wide variety of industries and in both large and small companies.
